>>Governor Walz Rips ‘Trump Abortion Bans’ at Wisconsin Rally

(Madison, WI) — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz continued his march along the campaign trail with a stop Tuesday in neighboring Wisconsin.  The Democratic vice presidential candidate took aim at former President Donald Trump’s opposition to women’s reproductive rights at a rally in Madison.  Walz told the crowd, “20 states now have Trump abortion bans. You’re seeing it in action, women being denied care at the E-R, having miscarriages in parking lots, survivors of rape being forced to carry those pregnancies to term.”  Walz was joined by former President Barack Obama during the campaign rally.

 

>>Man in Custody After Minneapolis Shooting, Fatal Shooting in Kandiyohi County

(Minneapolis, MN) — A suspect in custody after a shooting in Minneapolis and two shootings in Kandiyohi County, one fatal.  Minneapolis Police were called to reports of shots fired from an Uptown apartment balcony Tuesday.  Officers say it was the apartment of the man’s ex-girlfriend and her current partner and no one was injured.  Investigators say the man fled to Kandiyohi County where he shot and injured a man.  Deputies say they believe he then attempted a carjacking near Willmar, fatally shooting the driver.

 

>>St. Paul Celebrity Chef Pleads Guilty to Threatening Girlfriend

(St. Paul, MN) — St. Paul celebrity chef Justin Sutherland is pleading guilty to one count of threats of violence for pulling a gun on his girlfriend in June 2023.  Police say Sutherland’s girlfriend reported that he pointed a gun at her and told her not to come back or he would shoot her.  The criminal complaint lists multiple other allegations from the victim about Sutherland, such as saying he wanted her dead and wrapping his hands around her neck.  Sutherland competed on Season 16 of “Top Chef” and won “Iron Chef America.”

 

>>St. Cloud Hosting Toward Zero Deaths Conference

(St. Cloud, MN) — The annual Toward Zero Deaths Conference is underway in St. Cloud.  More than 800 traffic safety advocates are sharing the latest information and ideas to help reduce traffic-related fatalities on Minnesota roadways.  Mike Hanson with the Office of Traffic Safety says one area of emphasis is addressing the growing problem of speeding.  Hanson says accidents are avoidable if drivers make smart decisions and use common sense when behind the wheel.  To date, there have been 376 reported traffic deaths in the state.

 

>>Fosston Officials Continue Push for Local Control of Hospitals and Clinics

(Fosston, MN) — The City of Fosston in northwest Minnesota and its First Care Task Force continue to push for local control of the hospital and clinics.  City Administrator Cassie Heide says they’re pursuing other avenues after an arbitration panel ruled in favor of Essentia Health last month.  They are now working with a legal team a consulting firm with rural health care expertise.  The dispute began following Essentia Health’s decision to end baby deliveries in Fosston.  No response yet from Essentia officials.

 

>>Lake Superior Zoo’s Eurasian Lynx Felix Dies at Age 17

(Duluth, MN) — The Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth is mourning the loss of its 17-year-old Eurasian lynx named Felix.  Officials say Felix was becoming unsteady while navigating her habitat and struggling to eat in the past month and they made the decision to humanely euthanize her.  They say Felix will be deeply missed by staff and visitors alike.  She had been a member of the Lake Superior Zoo family since 2010.

 

>>Wolves Falls to Lakers in Season Opener in Los Angeles

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Minnesota Timberwolves opened the season with a 110-103 loss to the Lakers late Tuesday night in L-A.  Coach Chris Finch says they didn’t play well at all and couldn’t make enough offensive plays to stay in the game.  Anthony Edwards led the Wolves with 27 points and Julius Randle added 16 and nine rebounds.  Lakers center Anthony Davis went off for 36 points and 16 boards.  Minnesota plays the Kings Thursday night in Sacramento.
