(St. Paul, MN) — Following the town hall gathering Saturday with Governor Tim Walz and former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, the D-F-L announced a series of community events to fight for gun violence prevention. The meeting in Waconia Saturday drew hundreds of people and Democratic leaders. The D-F-L says invitations were extended to local elected officials from all political parties, but Republicans either declined or failed to respond. D-F-L officials say the next town hall will be November 6th in Rochester.

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — Local hunger-relief organizations are warning about how the federal government shutdown is going to impact Minnesotans. Second Harvest Heartland C-E-O Sarah Moberg says more than 440,000 Minnesotan rely on SNAP to supplement their grocery budget. Moberg says if SNAP funding goes out because of the shutdown, food banks will go from a hunger crisis to a hunger catastrophe. She says food banks across the state are already dealing with long lines, and that will only increase if more families’ SNAP benefits run out. This is day 27 of the federal government shutdown.

(Chisago City, MN) — Authorities say alcohol may have been a factor in a crash early Saturday near Chisago City that left two teenagers dead. Chisago County sheriff’s deputies say a car driven by a 14-year-old with two 15-year-old passengers collided head-on with an S-U-V driven by a 17-year-old with an 18-year-old passenger. One of the 15-year-old boys in the car was killed in the crash and the 17-year-old boy driving the S-U-V later died in the hospital. The two other 15-year-olds in the car were taken to the Regions Hospital with serious injuries. The report says alcohol was found at the scene.

(Janesville, MN) — A woman from Lakeville is the victim in deadly crash east of Mankato in Blue Earth County. The Minnesota State Patrol says a car driven by 20-year-old Valerie Caven collided with a semi Saturday on Highway 14 . Troopers say Caven died at the scene. The semi driver from St. Peter wasn’t hurt. The report says alcohol was not involved and the roadway was dry at the time.

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester man faces first-degree drug sale charges after police say he sold more than half pound of methamphetamine during a controlled buy. Investigators say 53-year-old Bo Williams was identified by a police informant and met at a local hotel in May. The informant, under surveillance and wearing a recording device, delivered the meth to officers after the meeting. Williams was previously convicted of a felony drug offense in Fillmore County and served prison time for violating probation. His bail is set at 50,000 dollars.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Longtime Prince drummer Bobby Z. and keyboardist Morris Hayes are part of the creative team for the musical adaption of Purple Rain. Hayes says they were asked to contribute what they know about playing with Prince. He says they wanted to make sure the authenticity was there by having some people who had worked with Prince for a such a long time. Bobby Z. says the musical is still the story of the Kid, Appollonia, and Morris, but times are different, the story is different and it’s live theatre. He says they adapted it in a very clever way. Purple Rain runs through November 23rd at the State Theatre in Minneapolis.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves topped the Indiana Pacers 114-110 in the home opener Sunday night at Target Center. Julius Randle led Minnesota with 31 points, Rudy Gobert had 14 and 18 rebounds, Donte DiVincenzo added 17, and Naz Reid finished with 16 points and ten boards. All-Star guard Anthony Edwards left the game early in the first quarter with a sore hamstring. The 2-and-1 Wolves are back on their home court tonight (Mon 8:30pm) against 1-and-1 Denver Nuggets.
>>Adrian Peterson Arrested in Texas for DWI, Weapons Violation
(Sugar Land, TX) — Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is in trouble with the law in Texas. Authorities in Fort Bend County say Peterson was arrested Sunday morning for D-W-I and unlawful carrying of a weapon. A-P was arrested for D-W-I in Minnesota last April following a Vikings draft party event. Peterson played 15 years in N-F-L and was M-V-P for the Vikings in 2012.
