(St. Paul, MN) — The Senate Subcommittee studying the impact of federal decisions is holding weekly hearings on how the cuts are affecting Minnesotans. Thursday the focus was federal workers and the government shutdown. Republican Senator Carla Nelson from Rochester says, “this is not a partisan thing. The damage being done from this is hurting everyone. It is a bipartisan self-inflicted wound that is hurting Minnesotans.” Committee Chair Lindsey Port of Burnsville said, “people are hungry. People need to eat food. That is the bottom line. People need to have health insurance that is not four times the cost that it was last year.” Next week’s hearing in Duluth will look at the impact of federal cuts on higher education and research grants.

(Hibbing, MN) — A woman from Anoka will be sentenced November 20th for trafficking methamphetamine on the Iron Range. A St. Louis County jury convicted 50-year-old Jennifer Schostag Thursday of aggravated first-degree meth sales and possession after a four-day trial in Hibbing. Prosecutors say Schostag was caught with nearly two pounds of meth during a March traffic stop after repeated trips between the Iron Range and the Twin Cities. The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office credits the Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force and Minnesota B-C-A for the conviction.

(Fargo, ND) — A Fargo man is now charged in a deadly shooting Monday night in an apartment. Prosecutors say 26-year-old Levi Larteh is facing murder and reckless endangerment charges in the shooting of 28-year-old Nadin Khoury. Court documents say Larteh and Khoury had known each for several years. Khoury died of multiple gunshot wounds. Larteh was arrested Tuesday in Barnesville, Minnesota and booked in the Clay County jail.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Police in Minneapolis e are investigating the death of a man who was shot Thursday morning while interrupting a theft. Officers say a man was found behind a business with a life-threatening gunshot wound and died at the scene. Investigators say the victim confronted a suspect trying to steal from a vehicle outside his workplace and was shot. Police Chief Brian O’Hara called the killing “senseless” and urged the public to report crimes rather than intervene.

(Blaine, MN) — There could be a lot of trick-or-treaters on Minnesota streets tonight with Halloween falling on a Friday this year. Blaine Police Officer Brian Wiens says drivers need to focus on staying alert, driving slow in the neighborhoods, double-checking crosswalks and intersections, and making sure their headlights are on. Wiens is encouraging kids wear some sort of light and a flashing light if possible. He also says the chances for D-W-Is always go up on the holidays.

(Bloomington, MN) — Families are invited to take their kids trick-or-treating indoors later today(Fri) at the Mall of America. The M-O-A is hosting what it calls a Mall-O-Ween celebration. Guests can pick up a treat bag in the Rotunda before roaming the mall for trick-or-treat designations. There will also be activities tonight in Nickelodeon Universe including the Fog Chute and Fright Lights.

(Undated) — Minnesotans have a reason to raise a pint this weekend. Tomorrow(Sat) marks the return of Minnesota Beer Day, a celebration of the state’s brewing history and its craft beer scene. Organizers say it’s not just about what’s in your glass, it’s about the people behind it. Bob Galligan with the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild says the day honors the small business owners who run local breweries and taprooms. November 1st was chosen to mark the founding of Minnesota’s Grain Belt Brewery back in 1850. To celebrate Minnesota Beer day, the Guild is offering a special pint glass at participating breweries.

You should also know your target and what is beyond, and check all tree stands and equipment to make sure they’re in working order. Minnesota’s firearms deer season opens November 8th.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild are on a five-game skid following a 4-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins Thursday night in St. Paul. Kirill Kaprizov netted his seventh goal for Minnesota in the first period before the Pens scored four unanswered. The Wild are now 0-2-and-2 on their six-game homestand and 3-6-and-3 overall to start the season. Filip Gustavsson suffered his fourth straight loss on 29 saves. The Wild host the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.
