>>Former Governor Carlson Joins Republicans for Harris Minnesota Team

(St. Paul, MN) — Former Governor Arne Carlson is the most prominent member as “Republicans for Harris” officially launches in Minnesota.  Carlson says there’s “no question” former President Donald Trump is a threat to democracy.  He says,” he’s already laid out his plans for a complete consolidation of power under him… and the Supreme Court has already given him a good first leg-up on that by declaring that… he’s immune from any kind of prosecution for any action that he takes as president.”  State G-O-P officials weren’t immediately reachable for comment, but Chairman David Hann said earlier there’s not anything that Harris and running mate Tim Walz represent that Republicans would find attractive.  Hann claims there are Democrats who won’t vote for Harris.

 

>>Veterans Suicide Prevention & Awareness Day Event Saturday in Duluth

(Duluth, MN) — The 6th annual Veterans Suicide Prevention and Awareness Day is Saturday in Minnesota.  Kristi Stites with the Department of Veterans Affairs says the state program is tomorrow morning (Sat 9-11am) in Duluth.  She says they honor the survivors of veterans lost to suicide and talk about how to come together and do some things differently and make connections and give sense of purpose.  Stites says the state program moves each year based on where there is a high rate of veteran suicides.  Minnesota lost 99 veterans to suicide in 2023.

 

>>Missing Morrison County Teenager Found Safe, Man Commits Suicide

(St. Cloud, MN) — Authorities in Morrison County say the investigation into a missing teenager turned into a SWAT standoff that ended with a man dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Sheriff’s deputies say 14-year-old Sophya Cherne was found safe at a St. Cloud home around 3:30 pm Wednesday.  Officers spoke to a man who lived there, and he went into a bedroom and apparently shot himself.  The investigators were wearing body cameras.  No other injuries were reported.

 

>>Judge Denies Paynesville Woman’s Motion to Withdraw Plea in Daughter’s Murder

(St. Cloud, MN) — A Stearns County judge is denying a Paynesville woman’s request to withdraw her guilty plea in the second-degree murder of her daughter with disabilities.  Thirty-nine-year-old Elise Nelson will be sentenced on November 21st.  Nelson’s new lawyer claimed she was coerced into signing the plea petition, didn’t have time to review it and had ineffective counsel.  Prosecutors say Nelson disabled her daughter’s oxygen device in June of 2020 four days and deprived her of medical care.  Police found the child unresponsive, and she died at the Paynesville hospital.

 

>>ATV Rider Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Crash with Dog near Alexandria

(Carlos, MN) — A west central Minnesota man is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries suffered in an A-T-V crash Thursday near Alexandria.  The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says 62-year-old Leonard Hintzen of Carlos was riding on a local road when a dog ran out in front of his A-T-V.  Deputies say Hintzen tried to brake but struck the dog and was thrown from the machine.  He was taken to an Alexandria hospital with critical injuries and later airlifted to another medical facility.

 

>>Minnesota Department of Ag Offering Grants to Prevent Wolf Attacks

(St. Paul, MN) — New money is available to Minnesota livestock producers to prevent wolf attacks.  Mark Abrahamson with the state Department of Agriculture says a total of 45 thousand dollars will be awarded to reimburse costs of approved preventative practices.  They include fencing or other barriers to protect animals from wolves when they’re grazing, shelters for animals that are calving, and guard animals like donkeys or dogs.  Abrahamson says eligible producers must live within Minnesota’s wolf range—mostly the upper half of the state.  Applications are due January 3rd, 2025.

 

>>New Burning Restrictions in Cook and Lake Counties in the Arrowhead

(Grand Marais, MN) — New burning restrictions go into effect today (Fri) in Lake and Cook counties in the northeast corner of the state.  The Minnesota D-N-R says burning permits will not be issued, campfires are only allowed in an established fire ring, and fireworks are prohibited on public and private land outside city limits.  Northeastern Minnesota is in a moderate drought and getting drier.  Campfires are also restricted in the Superior National Forest including the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

 

>>Minnesota Lynx Play Game 3 of WNBA Semifinals at Connecticut

(Uncasville, CT) — The Minnesota Lynx play Game 3 of the W-B-N-A Semifinals tonight (Fri 6:30) at the Connecticut Sun.  The Lynx are coming off a 77-70 win Tuesday night at Target Center that evened the best-of-five series at one game each.  All-Star forward Napheesa Collier only scored nine points in Game 2 for Minnesota but added 12 rebounds and five assists.  Game 4 will also be played at Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday.
