>>American Red Cross Urges Blood Donations During Hurricanes in Southeast

(Undated) —  The American Red Cross continues to work to restock critically needed blood products, especially in the southeastern United States.  Red Cross Minnesota spokesman Dave Schoeneck says the impacts of Hurricane Helene are still being felt, and now the anticipated devastation from Hurricane Milton.  He says they’ve had to cancel hundreds of blood drives in the southeast because the conditions simply don’t allow them to collect blood.  He says the best way to help hurricane victims in places like Florida and the Carolinas is to increase our blood supplies in the Midwest.

 

>>Public Comment Opens for New Medical Cannabis Delivery Methods

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management is now taking public comment on proposed new ways to use medical cannabis.  The O-C-M’s Josh Collins says dry herb vaporization was added to the allowable products last year.  He says every year, patients or manufacturers are able to submit requests for us to consider new delivery methods, and this year we have three of those submitted.  The proposed new delivery methods are vaporized concentrate, a dry powder inhaler, and infused cannabis flower.  The public comment deadline is November 5th, and the O-C-M is expected to make a final decision by December 2nd.

 

>>2 People Killed in 3-Vehicle Crash near Detroit Lakes in Becker County

(Detroit Lakes, MN) — The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle crash near Detroit Lakes in Becker County that left two people dead.  Troopers say a car and two vans collided on Highway 59 Tuesday afternoon.  The report shows a 33-year-old Detroit Lakes man driving the car and his 60-year-old passenger from Hawley were killed.  The victims’ names haven’t been released.  Two occupants from Fosston in one of the vans were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the other driver wasn’t hurt.  Alcohol wasn’t a factor in the crash.

 

>>Red Lake Woman Sentenced to 15 Years for Neglect in Child’s Death

(Minneapolis, MN) — A woman from Red Lake will serve 15 months in federal prison in connection with the death of a child in her care in 2022.  Prosecutors say 64-year-old Sharon Rosebear intentional deprived the child of necessary food and health care as one of its caretakers.  The victim later died of the combined effects of starvation and an infection.  Rosebear was found guilty of felony child neglect following a six-day trial.  Her co-defendant, 42-year-old Julius Fineday Senior, pleaded guilty to felony neglect causing the death of a child and is serving a five-year prison sentence.

 

>>3 Bloods Gang Members Convicted of Federal Racketeering and Gun Charges

(Minneapolis, MN) — Federal prosecutors say three members of the Minneapolis Bloods gang have been found guilty of racketeering and firearms charges.  Evidence in the trial showed Desean Solomon, Michael Burrell, and Leontawan Holt were involved in violent gang activity and fatal shootings from 2020 through 2022.  They were accused of the assault and shooting death of a rival gang member at a north Minneapolis nightclub and taking part in a large fight at an Uptown bar that resulted int the fatal shooting of another rival gang member.  Their sentencing hearings haven’t been scheduled.

 

>>Brooklyn Park Man Pleads Guilty to Fatal 2022 Shooting by Son

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — A Brooklyn Park man is pleading guilty to manslaughter as part of a deal with prosecutors.  Twenty-three-year-old Marlon White was charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter in January after his two-year-old son allegedly fatally shot a man in September 2022.  Court documents say the victim was shot inside a Brooklyn Park residence and then died at a hospital.  White told police he bought a gun, put it under the victim’s couch so the victim’s brother didn’t see it, and went to pick up his son before returning.  A friend on FaceTime with White at the time of the shooting said he heard gunfire and the victim shouting White’s son had shot him.  White’s sentencing is on December 3rd.

 

>>Pilot Safe After Plane Crashes in Cass County

(Cass County, MN) — Authorities say a pilot avoided serious injuries after their plane crashed on a northern Minnesota lake during a proficiency flight on Tuesday afternoon.  The Minnesota D-N-R says the crash occurred just after 2 p-m on Inguadona Lake in Cass County.  Officials said the pilot is safe and was checked by emergency responders at the scene.  Investigators are trying to determine why the plane went down.

 

>>Anoka County Authorities Searching for 2 Missing Teens

(Anoka County, MN) — The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office is searching for two missing persons.  Sixteen-year-old Brock Coleman Matich was last seen on September 5th in Spring Lake Park.  He’s described as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing around 130 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.  Officers say 17-year-old Ashya Robertson was last contacted on September 27th in south Minneapolis at a homeless encampment.  She’s described as mixed, 5 feet 5 inches tall, with brown/black hair and hazel eyes.  Anyone with information about either teen should call 9-1-1 or the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office (763-324-5000).

 

>> McDonald’s Sues 2 Minnesota Meatpacking Companies

(Undated) — McDonald’s is suing four of the nation’s largest meatpackers, including two headquartered in Minnesota.  The company alleges that Minnesota-based J-B-S and Cargill, along with Tyson and National Meat Packing Company and their subsidiaries, are involved in a price-fixing scheme specifically for beef.  In a federal complaint filed in New York, McDonald’s has accused the companies of engaging in anticompetitive measures, such as collectively limiting supply to boost prices and charging “illegally inflated” amounts.  As of now, the companies involved have not commented on the allegations in the lawsuit.

 

>>3M’s Scotch Magic Tape Wins Coolest Thing Made in MN Contest

(Undated) — It’s official.  The “Coolest Thing Made in Minnesota” is 3M’s Scotch Magic Tape. The contest sponsored by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce picked the public’s brain for which state-made innovation is the “coolest.”  Officials say the competition was started to highlight Minnesota’s many inventions that are used around the world.

 

>>Minnesota Lynx Top Connecticut Sun in Game 5 to Advance to WNBA Finals

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Lynx beat the Connecticut Sun 88-77 last night (Tues) at Target Center to advance to the W-B-N-A Finals. Napheesa Collier had 27 points and 11 rebounds, Courtney Williams added 24 and seven assists, and Kayla McBride scored 19 points in the Game 5 semifinal victory.  Minnesota will open the Finals Thursday night at the New York Liberty.  The Lynx won three of the four regular season matchups.  Tickets are on sale for Games 3 and 4 of the W-N-B-A Finals next Wednesday and Friday in Minneapolis.
