He faces both state and federal charges in connection with the June 14th assassination of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and the shootings of Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Boelter’s next federal court appearance is November 12th.

Twelve-year-old Sophia Forchas has been upgraded to serious condition, signaling a potential improvement in her prognosis. Last week her doctor shared that Forchas sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of her head. The bullet remains lodged in her brain, and surgeons were forced to remove the left half of her skull to allow space for swelling. Her care team expressed cautious optimism, noting that while progress is expected in the coming weeks, the injury could result in lasting neurological effects.

(Hastings, MN) — A South St. Paul man is now facing a first-degree murder charge in the killing of his roommate in April. A Dakota County grand injury indicted 36-year-old Jacob Audie Thursday on a first- and second-degree murder count in the death of 72-year-old Michael Schille. Audie called police to report that he shot Schille and officers found him with a gunshot wound to the head. Audie told investigators that he had been the victim’s caretaker, and they lived together the past year or two. His next court hearing is Tuesday.

(Duluth, MN) — Police in Duluth are still investigating an incident Thursday morning on the city’s west side where a man was found dead on the road. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Mathias Turbes. Officers say initial findings suggest Turbes may have been struck by a vehicle. Following further investigation, a 35-year-old man from Superior, Wisconsin was arrested on preliminary charges of criminal vehicular operation. He is currently being held in the Douglas County Jail.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Farm Aid 40 concert at the University of Minnesota next weekend could be impacted by the Teamsters strike. Crews scheduled to begin building the stage today (Fri) at Huntington Bank Stadium are refusing to cross the picket lines. Officials said they are deeply concerned the strike jeopardizes their ability to hold Farm Aid 40 as planned but primarily puts these workers in a place of hardship. The U of M said in a statement, “The decision about whether the event moves forward is theirs. It is not a University of Minnesota decision.” The festival and concert featuring Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews, and many other acts is September 20th at the Gophers football stadium.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Free Palestine Coalition activists are rallying at Minneapolis City Hall this morning (Fri), calling on Mayor Jacob Frey to cancel the city’s contract with Israeli tech firm Zencity. Organizers say the 500-thousand-dollar deal targets residents with surveys about the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) after “decades of racist violence, including the killing of George Floyd.” Zencity tech has been used nationally by law enforcement to monitor social media posts. Board president Alison Cromie says the city put on the festival the last three years and this is the first year it has been a community-led event. Cromie says they’ve added a full lineup of entertainment, vendors, and food trucks. Her goal is to get out a message of inclusivity and have an awesome time. She hopes to build the local L-G-B-T-Q-+ community through events like this.

D-N-R Big Game Coordinator Paul Burr says hunters should let someone know their plans before they head out so that someone can be aware of where you’ll be and how long you plan on being out. (Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Lynx closed out the regular season with a 72-53 win over the Golden State Valkyries at Target Center. Natisha Hiedeman led Minnesota with 21 points, Napheesa Collier scored 19, and Jessica Shepard added 11 points. The top-seeded Lynx will play the number eight Valkyries in the first round of the W-N-B-A playoffs. Game One of the best-of-three series is Sunday in Minneapolis.
