The Democratic vice presidential nominee then heads to Asheville, North Carolina this evening to headline a Harris-Walz campaign rally. Republican V-P candidate J-D Vance is speaking later today (Tues 4:30pm) in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

(St. Paul, MN) — The state Department of Employment and Economic Development is reporting a double-digit increase in exports of Minnesota goods. DEED analyst Thu-Mai Ho-Kim says exports totaled seven-point-one-billion dollars in the second quarter and that was a 17-percent increase over last year. She says most of that growth was driven by mineral fuels, optical and medical goods, plastics, and vehicles. Ho-Kim says exports to Canada and Mexico rose by at least 40 percent to each country. Minnesota exports are up nine percent over the first six months of 2024.

(Washington, DC) — A bill sponsored by Minnesota Congressmen Brad Finstad and Dean Phillips aims to address staffing shortages in state and local law enforcement agencies. Finstad says there’s a big concern about shortages that we have in the pipeline for folks who are interested in law enforcement. He says it comes up in conversations he’s had with the Brown and Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Offices and the Rochester Police Department. The Pathways to Policing Act would authorize funds for the Department of Justice to operate programs focused on strengthening the pipeline of candidates interested in pursuing law enforcement careers.

(Undated) — Six major nonprofits in Minnesota are stressing the importance of voting on this National Voter Registration Day (Tues). Catholic Charities Twin Cities, Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota, Greater Twin Cities United Way, Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, Second Harvest Heartland, and Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity are asking Minnesotans to register to vote on or before November 5th. Officials say while low-income residents, people with fewer resources or people with disabilities vote at lower levels, a study shows neighbors who engage in nonpartisan initiatives are 10 percent more likely to vote than their peers.

(Hugo, MN) — Authorities in Washington County are searching for a man they say is a person of interest in a deadly assault Monday night in Hugo. First responders found a 68-year-old woman with severe traumatic injuries and tried to save her, but she died in the hospital. Sheriff’s deputies say they’re looking for 45-year-old Trevor Wunderlich. He’s six-foot-one, weighs around 225 pounds, has blue eyes, a beard, and a bald head. Officers say Wunderlich is considered dangerous and anyone who sees him should called 9-1-1.
>>St. Paul Police Looking for Suspect in Fatal Midway Shooting
(St. Paul, MN) — Police in St. Paul are investigating an early morning shooting that left a man dead in the Midway area. A witnessed called 9-1-1 to report shots fired and a victim lying on the ground around 12:30 a-m today (Tues). Officers located the victim in the rear of an apartment building with gunshot injuries and he died at the scene. Investigators are looking for witnesses and processing the area for evidence. This is the 18th homicide of the year in St. Paul.
>>Prosecutors to Announce Charges in Deadly Hit-and-Run in Minneapolis
(Minneapolis, MN) — Hennepin County prosecutors plan to announce charges today (Tues 12pm) against the driver accused in a deadly hit-and-run crash in downtown Minneapolis. Police say the 22-year-old woman drove an S-U-V into a crowd of people just after midnight Saturday, killing 16-year-old De’Miaya Broome and injuring five others. The suspect was arrested about an hour later in north Minneapolis and booked on suspicion of murder. Investigators say there was a fight involving young people before the vehicle hit the victims and fled the scene.

(St. Peter, MN) — The Minnesota State Patrol says a woman struck by a vehicle over the weekend in St. Peter did not survive. The report says 68-year-old Debbie Lee Davis of St. Peter was walking along Highway 169 when she was hit by a cargo van. Davis was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital Saturday afternoon and later died of her injuries.
