(St. Paul, MN) — After two days of Senate working group meetings on gun violence prevention, lawmakers are waiting to see when Governor Tim Walz will call a special session. It appears doubtful that a ban on assault rifles will pass the legislature. Republican Senator Eric Lucero of St. Michael said, “It’s very clear that has been enumerated many times before, passing new gun laws will be tied up in courts and not have an impact, and likely found unconstitutional.” D-F-L Senator Ron Latz from St. Louis Park responded, “It’s not just the Democrats job to pass an assault weapons ban. We will try but it should be, and it is an obligation of every member of the legislature to take steps to go after the weapons, not just the people.”

(Golden Valley, MN) — A Twin Cities bracelet company is leading a fundraiser to support Annunciation Catholic School and Church. Emily Hobson Bauer of Embrace Our Souls says they created a bracelet titled “Hold the Light” calling for all of us to come together in unity and in support to bring light to them while they are healing. Hobson Bauer says they made bracelets in response to the killings of Melissa Hortman and her husband and wanted to do something for Annunciation. (St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Department of Revenue is warning residents about scam text messages that appear to come from the department. These texts claim you’re owed a refund and ask you to click a link to update your banking information. But don’t be fooled, these messages are not from the Department of Revenue. Officials say their systems and taxpayer data are secure. If you get one of these texts, don’t click the link. Instead, report it as junk or spam, delete it, and if you did share any personal information, contact your bank right away. The Minnesota Department of Revenue will never send unsolicited messages asking you to update your personal or financial information.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A man from Carver County is facing 16 federal charges for creating videos showing animals being tortured, attack, and killed. The U-S Attorney’s Office says 32-year-old Bryan Edison of Carver posted nearly 350 “animal crush” videos which he sold on his pay-per-view You Tube channels. Edison’s animal crush channels were removed by You Tube for severe violations. He made his court appearance Wednesday on 16 counts of animal crushing.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A Minnesota man is pleading guilty to federal arson charges for setting fire to mosques in Bloomington and Minneapolis. Prosecutors say 38-year-old Jackie Rahm Little admitted to starting fires at the Mercy Islamic Center in Bloomington and the Masjid Omar Islamic Center in Minneapolis in April 2023. Damage to the Bloomington mosque was more than 378 thousand dollars. Acting U-S Attorney Joe Thompson said, “When someone sets fire to a house of worship, it is not only a federal crime, it is an attack on the heart of a community.”

(Victoria, MN) — Carver County authorities say an 85-year-old woman is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in Victoria. Witnesses told deputies that the woman was in the crosswalk when she was struck Wednesday morning. The victim was taken by ambulance to Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis. Investigators say the 53-year-old man driving the car is cooperating. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.

(Bemidji, MN) — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension issued an endangered missing person alert for 35-year-old Andrew Colen of Bemidji. The B-C-A says Colen’s family last saw him in early August, and his girlfriend says she hasn’t heard from him in two weeks. Andrew said he had gone to Duluth and then Minneapolis. Authorities consider him endangered due to long-term use of intoxicants. Colen is described as five feet 11 inches tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds, with blue eyes. He has a Batman outline tattoo on his chest and a skateboard figure tattoo on his right leg. Anyone with information about Colen is urged to contact the Bemidji Police Department.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minnesota music legend Bob Dylan will be performing at the Farm Aid 40 concert Saturday at Huntington Bank Stadium. T he Hibbing native and former U of M student was added to the lineup yesterday. Dylan is playing Friday night at Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin and join him in Minneapolis. Other Farm Aid performers include Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews, Billy Strings, Margo Price, Kenny Chesney, Wynonna Judd, and Trampled by Turtles. Tickets are still available for Farm Aid 40.
>>Red Hot Chili Peppers Drummer Smith Coming to U of M Homecoming
(Minneapolis, MN) — Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith is coming to the University of Minnesota to celebrate homecoming next month. Smith was born in St. Paul and his parents are U of M alums. The Grammy Award-winning drummer will play with the Pride of Minnesota Marching Band during halftime of the Gophers vs. Purdue football game on October 11th. He’s also helping launch the Curtis & Joan Smith Scholarship, which honors parents and will provide support for young aspiring musicians at the University’s School of Music.

(San Jose, CA) — The Minnesota Lynx are headed to the W-N-B-A semifinals following a 75-74 comeback win over the Valkyries last night in San Jose. The Lynx rallied back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to sweep Golden State in the best-of-three, first-round playoff series. Napheesa Collier had a game-high 24 points, Kayla McBride added 18, and Bridget Carlton hit four three-pointers for 12 points. Minnesota will play either the New York Liberty or Phoenix Mercury in the second round. Tickets for the semifinal games at Target Center go on sale at noon today (Thurs). The best-of-five series starts Sunday in Minneapolis.
