>>State Capitol Security Hearing Monday Morning in St. Paul
(St. Paul, MN) — The Advisory Committee on Capitol Area Security is meeting again this morning (Mon) in St. Paul for a public hearing. The panel will look at security measures currently in place at dozens of state capitols across the country. There will also be an update from the Department of Public Safety. In August, D-P-S and the Minnesota State Patrol instituted new security changes at the Capitol including a reduced number of public entrances. The agenda sets aside time for public comments.

(St. Paul, MN) — This week it’s northern Minnesota’s turn to show off infrastructure projects that need to be completed. Starting tomorrow (Tues), members of the House Capital Investment Committee will embark on a three-day tour of projects that could be covered under future bonding bills. The tour will include stops in the north metro, Brainerd, Bemidji and Moorhead. Last week, Senate committee members toured locations in southern Minnesota.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Many of the 50 thousand people attending Farm Aid 40 at the U of M’s Huntington Bank Stadium were farmers. Thirty-six-year-old Matt Kruger grows corn, oats, sunflowers, and has 35 feed cows near Pine Island in southeastern Minnesota. He says, “Markets are really poor in the farm economy and there’s a high risk of bankruptcy and farmers being in some serious financial difficulties.” Kruger says he doesn’t know how the fundraising happens or is distributed to farmers, but Farm Aid is great for highlighting what’s happening in rural America. Governor Tim Walz took the Farm Aid 40 stage after midnight to introduce co-founder and Farm Aid president Willie Nelson.
>>Mitchell’s Attorney Requests Felony Conviction to be Changed to Misdemeanor
(Detroit Lakes, MN) — The attorney for former Minnesota Senator Nicole Mitchell is requesting her felony conviction be changed to a misdemeanor at tomorrow’s (Tues) sentencing hearing. Mitchell was convicted of first-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools by a Becker County jury in July after breaking into her stepmother’s home in Detroit Lakes. Attorney Dane Dekrey wants Mitchell’s charges changed to misdemeanors, and her sentence reduced to work release. He argues Mitchell has already been punished for her crimes as she was forced to resign from the state legislature and gave up her career in the National Guard.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Turning Point U-S-A will proceed with its scheduled event at the University of Minnesota today (Mon 6:30pm) without its founder, Charlie Kirk. The 31-year-old conservative activist and prominent Trump supporter was killed last week at Utah Valley University. In Kirk’s absence, commentator Michael Knowles will headline the event, now rebranded as “The American Comeback Tour Featuring Michael Knowles.” Attendees must register in advance. This is not a U-of-M sponsored event.
>>Statewide Campaign Focuses on Car Seat Safety and Seatbelt Use
(St. Paul, MN) — A statewide child passenger safety and seat belt extra enforcement campaign is going on this week across Minnesota. State Patrol Chief Christina Bogojevic says every fatal crash caused by not using a seatbelt or properly installed car seat is preventable. She says there will be extra law enforcement out to make sure people are properly wearing seatbelts and also have their child car seats installed properly. In 2024, preliminary figures show 477 traffic fatalities in Minnesota, and of those 106 were not wearing a seat belt. The overall seat belt use rate reached an all-time high in 2025 of 95.2 percent in Minnesota.
>>Small Plane Fire in Paynesville
(Paynesville, MN) — Authorities say small plane caught fire Sunday morning at the Paynesville Airport, but no one was injured. The Paynesville Fire Department says crews were dispatched following a report of a plane on the ground with its engine ablaze. Fire Chief Mike Stern says that by the time firefighters arrived, the plane’s owner had already extinguished the flames. Firefighters confirmed the fire was out and moved the aircraft away from the hangar as a precaution. Chief Stern says the owner had just taken the plane out of the hangar and started the engine when the fire broke out. No buildings were damaged in the incident.
>>Washington County Deputies Search for Armed Robbery, Kidnapping Suspects
(Grant, MN) — Washington County deputies are searching for two suspects after a reported armed robbery and kidnapping in Grant. Officials say three victims were found uninjured Friday evening. Deputies say the suspects, two Black men with dreadlocks, fled the scene and remain at large. Investigators believe this was not a random act. SWAT teams searched the area, and deputies are asking anyone with information or security footage to call 9-1-1.

(Duluth, MN) — A sure sign that winter is approaching setup begam this past weekend for the 22nd season of the Bentleyville Tour of Lights at Bayfront Park in Duluth. Volunteers are needed to help bring the magic to life. Opportunities are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Wednesday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., now through November 9th. Tasks include assembling tunnels and displays, installing rope lighting, painting, and making repairs. Bentleyville is set to open for the season on November 22nd.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Vikings improved to 2-and-1 with a 48-10 rout of the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday at U-S Bank Stadium. Back-up quarterback Carson Wentz threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns and Jordan Mason ran for 116 yards and two scores. Minnesota cornerback Isaiah Rodgers returned an interception and a fumble for touchdowns and forced another fumble. J osh Metellus also had a pick for the Purple. Cincinnati falls to 2-and-1. The Vikings play Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers Sunday morning in Ireland.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Lynx beat the Phoenix Mercury 82-69 Sunday at Target Center to take a 1-0 lead in the W-B-N-A semifinals. The Lynx outscored the Mercury 42-22 in the second half on Sunday. Courtney Williams led Minnesota with 23 points, seven assists, eight rebounds, and five steals. Kayla McBride scored 21 points and Napheesa Collier had 18 and nine boards. Game 2 of the best-of-five series is Tuesday night in downtown Minneapolis.
