>>6 US House Members, Both MN Senators Support 3-Month Government Extension

(Washington, DC) — A bi-partisan bill passed by Congress Wednesday prevents a government shutdown and extends federal funding through December 20th.  Republican Representatives Brad Finstad and Michelle Fischbach were the only U-S House members from Minnesota to vote “no.”  G-O-P Congressmen Tom Emmer and Pete Stauber joined Democrats Angie Craig, Ilhan Omar, Betty McCollum, and Dean Phillips in voting “yes.”  The U-S Senate also passed the continuing resolution with the support of Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) is speaking outside of the Piper Sandler Heartland Summit conference in Minneapolis this morning (THURS) to release a report on Allina’s alleged “financial ties to compromising care.”  Nurses will read the report, “Code Blue: How Allina Health’s Financial Ties Compromised its Mission, Patient Care, and Business,” speak on the current crisis of care, and call on hospital executives attending the conference to “return decision-making to those who experience healthcare challenges every day.”

 

>>Family of NDSU Student Bearson Confident His Murder Will be Solved

(Sartell, MN) — The family of slain North Dakota State student Tommy Bearson of Sartell is confident that one day his murder will be solved and there will be justice for him.  Tom’s dad, Greg, says he’s encouraged police provided an update on the investigation Friday, which was the tenth anniversary of his son’s killing.  He says, “because certainly there’s been a lot of new evidence and information that’s come forward since Tom’s body was found. And I guess our family would encourage those people will cooperate to the extent that they can.”  Officers say people with information often don’t come forward because they feel it may have been previously shared or are hesitant due to a close relationship with some who could have been involved.

 

>>Motorcyclist from Roseville Killed in Crash on Highway 36 in Little Canada

(Little Canada, MN) — A motorcyclist from Roseville is the victim of a deadly crash Wednesday afternoon on Highway 36 in Little Canada.  The Minnesota State Patrol says a cycle driven by 45-year-old Emilio Reyes Miller rear-ended an S-U-V that was stopped in the right lane for traffic.  State troopers say Miller died at the scene.  The driver and passenger in the S-U-V weren’t injured. The report indicates alcohol was not involved.

 

>>Shooting in St. Paul’s Lowertown Leaves Female Artist Dead

(St. Paul, MN) — Police in St. Paul are investigating a shooting Wednesday evening in the Lowertown neighborhood that left an artist dead.  Officers called to multiple reports of shots fired found a woman lying in an alley with gunshot wounds.  Paramedics say she died at the scene. Investigators believe the suspected shooter fled in a vehicle.  Detectives are looking for physical and video evidence of the shooting.  The victim was reportedly a member of the Lowertown Lofts Art Cooperative.

 

>>Minnesota Man Indicted on Federal Drug Charges in Wisconsin

(Madison, WI) — A Minnesota man caught with more than 400 grams of fentanyl and 100-thousand dollars during a traffic stop in Wisconsin is facing federal charges.  The U-S Attorney’s Office says 42-year-old Ernest McCurty of Minneapolis was indicted for possessing 40 grams or more of a mixture containing fentanyl and heroin intended for distribution.  Authorities in central Wisconsin pulled over a vehicle driven by McCurty for speeding last November and a search led to the drugs and cash.  His passenger – Jeremy Stanton – of Minneapolis is also charged in the case.

 

>>More Than 3200 Bear Taken by Minnesota Hunters So Far This Season

(Grand Rapids, MN) — Just over two weeks remain in Minnesota’s bear hunting season and the numbers are way up over last year.  D-N-R Bear Project manager Andy Tri (try) says so far, we’re sitting somewhere around 32 hundred bears, which is the highest harvest has been probably for about 20 years.  Hunters in Minnesota harvested 18 hundred bears in the 2023 season.  Tri says the bears are hungry this year due to a lack of berries and other food.  Minnesota has an estimated 14 to 18 thousand bears.

 

>>Lynx Sweep Mercury in First Round Playoffs to Advance to WNBA Semifinals

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Lynx beat the Phoenix Mercury 101-88 Wednesday night at Target Center to sweep the best-of-three opening round playoff series.  All-Star forward Napheesa Collier tied a league postseason record with 42 points.  The Lynx outscored the Mercury 27-17 in the third quarter.  Minnesota will play Connecticut in the W-N-B-A semifinals starting on Sunday.  Tickets go on sale this (Thurs) morning at 10 a-m.

 

>>Minnesota Vikings LB Greenard Named NFL Defensive Player Of The Week

(Eagan, MN) — Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard  is being honored as the N-F-C Defensive Player of the Week.  Greenard had three sacks in Sunday’s 34-7 win over the Houston Texans at U-S Bank Stadium.  He also had three tackles for loss against his former team.  Twenty-seven-year-old Greenard signed with Minnesota this offseason and former Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter went to the Texans.  The 3-and-0 Vikings play the 2-and-1 Packers Sunday in Green Bay.
