(St. Paul, MN) — The latest survey of voters in the state shows Vice President Kamala Harris with a six-point advantage over former President Donald Trump. Harris leads Trump 50 to 44 percent in the new K-S-T-P/Survey U-S-A presidential poll. The vice president has a 59-to-35 percent lead among women voters in Minnesota while men favor the ex-president by a 52-to-40 percent margin. The previous poll had Harris up five points over Trump.

(St. Louis Park, MN) — Senator Ron Latz of St. Louis Park plans to sponsor a bill next session that would require Minnesota law enforcement to trace guns used in crimes and share that information. Latz says police in Minneapolis and St. Paul are currently using the e-Trace system, but not all the agencies in the state do. He says only a fraction of the agencies that trace guns are sharing the data and results of the trace. Data show nearly 40 percent of law enforcement agencies do not use the e-Trace system, and only 13 percent of them share the info. Latz says he was surprised to learn Minnesota officers are not already mandated to trace guns used in crimes.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota B-C-A is investigating the fatal shooting of a murder suspect in Belle Plaine by St. Paul police officers. Agents say the 29-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting a woman who was painting a mural in St. Paul’s Lowertown neighborhood Wednesday night. Authorities tracked the suspect’s vehicle to Belle Plaine and monitored him overnight before he came out of the house Thursday morning. Investigators say he was armed with a gun when police tried to take him into custody and two St. Paul officers shot him. The man was treated at the scene and later died in the hospital.

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz says six million dollars in state grant funding is expected to create thousands of new child care slots in Minnesota. The governor’s office says grants of up to 600 thousand dollars can be used to start a new child care, expand, retain staff, modify facilities, make improvements necessary for licensing, and help overcome regulatory hurdles. The Department of Employment and Economic Development awarded six-point-two-million dollars to 21 organizations in May that are expected to increase child care program capacity by more than 22 hundred slots. DEED is accepting applications through October 31st.

(Lincoln, NE) — The new U-S Drought Monitor map shows more than 80 percent of Minnesota is now considered abnormally dry. That’s up from just over 50 percent last week. About 15-and-a-half percent of the state is in a moderate drought. Those areas include northeastern Minnesota, part of central Minnesota, and the southwest corner of the state. Minnesota is drying out this fall following record rainfall from April through June.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins will likely miss the playoffs following an 8-6 loss to the Marlins in 13 innings Thursday night at Target Field. The Twins rallied back from a 4-1 deficit to force extra innings, but Miami plated three runs in the top of 13 for the victory. Minnesota now trails Detroit and Kansas City for the final American League Wild Card spot by three games with three games remaining. The Twins wrap up the regular season against the Orioles at home this weekend.
