(St. Paul, MN) — State Representative Xp Lee of Brooklyn Park is officially the newest member of the Minnesota House. Lee took the oath of office Friday in the House chamber surrounded by family and friends. The former Brooklyn Park city councilman won the special election in House District 34-B to fill the seat of fallen House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman. The Minnesota House is again tied with 67 Democrats and 67 Republicans.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota farmers are caught in the middle of the U-S trade war with China. State Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen says China is our largest soybean export market but is not buying from us this fall due to tariffs. He says, “We have a lot of soybeans. We’re gonna have a big harvest. We need somewhere for them to go. ” Petersen says it was extra hard to see China make a major soybean purchase from Argentina last week and order zero U-S soybeans.

(Cottonwood, MN) — Authorities in southwestern Minnesota continue to investigate a deadly firetruck crash after the Lakeview High School homecoming events. The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office says a Wood Lake firetruck flipped on its side Friday night near Cottonwood. The report says a passenger – 43-year-old Steven Remiger of Wood Lake – was trapped under the truck and died at the scene. Thirty-seven-year-old Andrew Vanhecke and a six-year-old boy were taken to a Sioux Falls, South Dakota hospital with life-threatening injuries. State troopers say that alcohol may have been involved. The firetruck had been in the Lakeview homecoming parade.

(Stillwater, MN) — A bicyclist is in serious condition after being hit by a car near Stillwater. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says the man was riding Saturday when he was struck by a vehicle. Deputies say the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting local authorities with the investigation. No other information is being released.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Discount carrier Spirit Airlines is ending service at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in December. Spirit filed for bankruptcy in August for the second time in a year as the carrier struggles to compete against bigger airlines. Officials say the decision to end service at M-S-P is part of the airline’s “ongoing restructuring.” Spirit plans to furlough more than 18-hundred flight attendants before the end of the year.

(Phoenix, AZ) — The Minnesota Lynx season is over following an 86-81 loss in Game 4 of the W-B-N-A Semifinals Sunday night in Phoenix. Kayla McBride hit six three-pointers and had a career-high 31 points as Minnesota fell to the Mercury three games-to-one. The Lynx had a 13-point lead after three quarters but were outscored 31-13 in the fourth. All-Star forward Napheesa Collier sat out with an ankle injury and Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was suspended. Minnesota lost to the New York Liberty in the W-N-B-A Finals last year.

(Dublin, IE) — The Minnesota Vikings fell to 2-and-2 with a 24-21 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday in Dublin, Ireland. The Vikings trailed 24-6 in the fourth quarter before rallying for 15 points, but their comeback fell short. Quarterback Carson Wentz threw for 350 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Steelers back-up running back Kenneth Gainwell had 99 yards on the ground a pair of touchdowns. Justin Jefferson caught ten passes for 126 yards but couldn’t find the endzone. The Purple play the Cleveland Browns this Sunday in England.
