>>Governor Walz to Welcome Students on First Day of School in Eagan

(Eagan, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is welcoming back elementary students in Eagan this morning (Tues) to celebrate the first day of school.  Walz, Education Commissioner Willie Jett, and legislators are joining Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Superintendent Michael Bolsoni and local teachers.  The governor’s office says he will highlight Minnesota’s commitment to student safety and success.  Some schools in the state started classes before Labor Day.

 

>>2025 Minnesota State Fair Wrapped Up on Labor Day

(Falcon Heights, MN) — More than 1.79 million people attended the 2025 Minnesota State Fair through Sunday.  The Labor Day visitor numbers and total attendance will be released this afternoon (Tues).  A new daily record of just over 145-thousand visitors passed through the gates last Monday.  Officials says the weather was ideal for this year’s 12-day run.  Some fairgoers complained about increased prices for tickets, parking and food, but there were crowds every day of the State Fair.

 

>>Annunciation Church Holds 1st Mass Since Shooting, Victims Update

(Minneapolis, MN) — Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis held its first Mass this weekend since the shooting that injured 21 people and killed two children.  It was held in the auditorium as the church is still closed.  Hennepin Healthcare officials say three people are still hospitalized, one adult and two children, one of whom is in critical condition.  Children’s Minnesota says that six of seven children admitted have been discharged.  The Minneapolis text-to-donate line is working directly with the school to help the victims. >>Student Groups Urge Lawmakers to Take Action Against Gun Violence

(St. Paul, MN) — “Students Demand Action” was one of groups Monday at the State Capitol calling for Minnesota lawmakers to stop gun violence.  The rally was in response to last week’s mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.  One of the speakers, Timberlyn Mazeikis, is a school shooting survivor.  She told the crowd, “It is going to take our communities standing up and continuing to tell them that this is not acceptable and to remind our leaders that they are working for us.”  Mazeikis survived the Michigan State campus shooting in 2023 and later transferred to the University of Minnesota to study political science.

 

>>GOP Leaders Not Involved in Special Session Talks

(St. Paul, MN) — Republican leaders say they aren’t involved in talks about a possible legislative session on gun violence prevention.  Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth says Governor Tim Walz hasn’t reached out to her yet.  She said, “typically, although he has the full authority to do it, he would be engaging caucus leaders as far as what he’s thinking and moving forward.”  Senator Omar Fateh of Minneapolis asked the governor to convene a special session in response to the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School.

 

>>2 Charged with Aiding Suspect in Deadly Minneapolis Shooting

(Minneapolis, MN) — Two people are charged with aiding the suspect in a shooting last Tuesday that killed one person and injured six others near Cristo Rey High School in Minneapolis.  Hennepin County court documents allege that 30-year-old Tiffany Martindale and 33-year-old Ryan Quinn were the getaway car drivers for the alleged gunman known as “Bino.”  Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara says the suspect opened fire on a group people near the Catholic school with a high velocity rifle before fleeing in a vehicle.  Officials say Quinn was driving while Martindale was in the passenger seat.

 

>>St. Cloud Police Searching for Stabbing Suspect

(St. Cloud, MN) — Police in St. Cloud are searching for the suspect in the weekend stabbing of a woman.  Officers say they’re looking for 42-year-old George Harris of St. Cloud.  The victim was found wounded and taken to the hospital in critical condition.  Harris is described as a Black man, about five foot 11 inches tall, weighs around 200 pounds, and has a tattoo on his neck.  Anyone who sees Harris should call 9-1-1 and not approach him.  Police say he and the victim know each other.

 

>>Construction Nearly Complete on Anoka Cannabis Company Dispensary

(Anoka, MN) — The brick walls are up and the roof is on the Anoka Cannabis Company building.  The city-owned cannabis dispensary is expected to open in late December or early January.  Anoka broke ground on the 2.7 million-dollar project in May.  City officials estimate the Anoka Cannabis Company will generate 1.5 to 2 million dollars in revenue annually.  They believe it will be the first municipal cannabis dispensary in Minnesota and one of the first in the nation.

 

>>Interstate 94 Construction Starts Again in Minneapolis

(MInneapolis, MN) — Now that the Minnesota State Fair has come to an end, construction has re-started on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis.  MnDOT has closed the ramp from northbound 35-W to eastbound I-94 as part of the 94 bridge work.  Both directions of 94 will be reduced to three lanes between 35-W and Huron Boulevard.  MnDOT says all lanes and ramps in the project area will be open during the wintertime.

 

>>Minnesota Lynx Soar Past Dallas Wings at Target Center

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Lynx have a franchise-best 32-and-8 record following a 96-71 win over the Dallas Wings at Target Center.  Napheesa Collier scored 25 points, Natisha Hiedeman had a season-high 20 points, and Courtney Williams added 15.  Hopkins native Paige Bueckers led Dallas with 17 points and former Lynx guard Diamond Miller had 12.  Minnesota plays at Las Vegas on Thursday night.  The 26-and-14 Aces are on a 12-game win streak.
