>>Walz Motorcade Involved in Crash on Way to Milwaukee Rally
(Milwaukee, WI) – Campaign officials say the motorcade transporting Governor and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, members of the press, and staff crashed Monday, en route to the Harris-Walz rally in Milwaukee. The accident occurred on Interstate 794 around 1 pm on Labor Day. Officials say one campaign staffer was treated for what was believed to be a broken arm, while a reporter was treated by paramedics for concussion-like symptoms. Walz was uninjured. During his Labor Day rally, the Minnesota governor confirmed the incident, telling attendees “We’ve spoken with the staff, I’m relieved to say that with a few minor injuries, everybody’s going to be okay.” There is no word on what caused the crash. Governor Walz is back in Minnesota today (Tues).

(Falcon Heights, MN) — The Minnesota State Fair set at least five new daily attendance record this year. Officials say 256-thousand-15 visitors passed the through the gates on the final Sunday. That’s nearly 11 thousand more people that previous record of just over 245 thousand from 2019. The weather on Labor Day was about perfect for the last day of this year’s Great Minnesota Get-Together. Final attendance numbers for the 12-day run are expected this (Tues) afternoon.

(St. Paul, MN) — This is the first (Tues) day of school for thousands of students in Minnesota. Mike Hanson with the Office of Traffic Safety is reminding drivers to be conscious and aware of school buses and kids getting off them. He says, “they’re going to be all over the place again, and drivers need to really pay attention to what they’re doing around those buses.” Motorists are required to stop at least 20 feet from a school bus displaying red flashing lights or a stop arm. Stop-arm violations can result in up to a 500-dollar fine. Those who attempt to pass a school bus could be found guilty of a gross misdemeanor and subjected to more serious penalties.

(St. Louis Park, MN) — More than 105 thousand dollars has been raised for the family of a server killed in a tragic accident Sunday night at the Park Tavern in St. Louis Park. Thirty-four-year-old Kristina Folkerts was working when a car crashed into the patio, killing her, Methodist Hospital I-C-U coordinator Gabe Harvey, and injuring four other nurses. A Go Fund Me Page was also established for Gabe’s partner to help with funeral costs and other expenses. St. Louis Park police say the 56-year-old driver was booked in jail pending criminal vehicular homicide charges. There’s a growing memorial for the victims outside Park Tavern, which has been a popular restaurant and bowling alley in St. Louis Park for more than 50 years.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Jewish leaders in the Twin Cities are planning a memorial service for the six Israeli hostages killed in Gaza. On Sunday, Israeli officials confirmed the hostages, taken by Hamas during the October 7 attack, were killed in a tunnel prior to Israeli military forces arriving to the area. One American citizen, 23-year-old Hersh Goldberg-Polin, was among those killed. The Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas announced a memorial service for the hostages will be held Wednesday.

(Winona, MN) — The murder trial for the man accused of killing Madeline Kingsbury of Winona is just over month away. Thirty-year-old Adam Fravel will be in court today (Tues) for the first of his pre-trial hearings. According to court filings, key witnesses could be called to the stand as the state and defense finalize their cases for a jury. Kingsbury went missing from Winona on March 31, 2023, and her remains were found north of Mabel on June 7, 2023. Fravel is Kingsbury’s ex-boyfriend and the father of her two young children. He’s scheduled to stand trial for the first- and second-degree murder of Kingsbury on October 7th in Mankato.

(Siren, WI) — Investigators in northwest Wisconsin say they believe alcohol was a factor in a weekend crash that killed two people from Minnesota. The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office says a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Layne Leitner of Bloomington traveled about 120 feet off the roadway before striking a tree early Saturday near Webster. Deputies say Leitner and his front seat passenger, 34-year-old Kyle Orloske of White Bear Lake, died at the scene. A third passenger was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to the hospital.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Police in north Minneapolis say a driver is under arrest for an alleged hit-and-run crash that left a man on a motorized minibike dead. Officers found the man suffering from life-threatening injuries on Washington Avenue near I-94 around 5:30 Monday evening and he died at the scene. Witnesses said a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed struck the minibike and the driver ran from the scene on foot. Authorities say he was located nearby and taken into custody on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide.

(Redwood Falls, MN) — Authorities in southwest Minnesota are identifying a man who died following a single-vehicle crash this weekend in Redwood County. Sheriff’s deputies say it appears a vehicle driven by Richard Gewerth of Morton entered the ditch on County Road 1 near Redwood Falls and struck a utility pole. Geweth died at the scene Saturday night.

(Little Falls, MN) — A man from Sauk Centre is the victim of a deadly weekend motorcycle crash near Little Falls in Morrison County. The State Patrol says a three-wheeled cycle driven by 69-year-old David Searcy merged in front of an S-U-V on Highway 10 Sunday and his rear tire collided with the passenger side bumper of the vehicle. State troopers say David and 69-year-old Ruth Searcy were ejected from the motorcycle and the S-U-V rolled several times. David Searcy died at St. Cloud Hospital and Ruth was taken to a Little Falls hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The report says alcohol was not involved and both motorcyclists were wearing helmets.

The M-P-C-A issued an air quality alert Sunday after smoke from Canadian wildfires drifted into northern Minnesota. Winds out of the south should push the smoke back across the border today, improving conditions. Officials say wildfire smoke from Idaho and Montana could move into the state on Wednesday or Thursday.

(Atlanta, GA) — More than 400 cases of salmonella across the country are being linked to backyard poultry. The C-D-C reports more than a hundred people have been hospitalized. Texas and Missouri have the most cases, followed by Minnesota, Washington, Michigan and Oklahoma. Nearly 70 percent of those who got sick said they had contact with backyard poultry.
