Police say officers encountered heavy haze and exchanged gunfire with the suspect on an upper floor of the building. The gunman was later found dead. (Minneapolis, MN) — The man convicted in the 2025 shootings that killed former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and wounded State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, is now facing a state trial. Vance Boelter pleaded not guilty Wednesday to first-degree murder charges in Hennepin County and demanded a speedy trial. A judge scheduled the case for November 2nd. Boelter is already serving two life sentences following his federal conviction. His attorneys argue the state case violates protections against double jeopardy and want the trial moved out of Hennepin County because of extensive publicity.

(Ostego, MN) – A Minnesota swim coach accused of inappropriate communications with a teenage girl has pleaded guilty. Thirty-six-year-old Blake Le Saint of Otsego admitted to one count of distributing electronic communication material describing sexual conduct to a child. Prosecutors say Le Saint sent thousands of messages to the 15-year-old over several months, including explicit content. A second charge will be dismissed under the plea agreement. Le Saint, the owner of Mr. Blake’s Swim Academy and Minnesota’s 2023 Aquatics Instructor of the Year, is scheduled to be sentenced November 5th.

(St. Paul, MN) – One of the suspects involved in the shooting death of a St. Olaf College football player has been sentenced. Twenty-year-old Terrell Ranzy received a five-year prison term on a firearms conviction stemming from a September 2025 shooting in South St. Paul that killed 20-year-old Matthew Lee. Ranzy was acquitted earlier this year of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges after a judge determined it could not be proven which gunfire caused Lee’s death. Prosecutors say the shooting occurred during an attempted robbery. Another man involved in the incident still faces an attempted aggravated robbery charge.

(Moorhead, MN) — Moorhead police are asking for the public’s help finding a man wanted in connection with a shooting Tuesday night. Investigators are searching for Daniel Garbow after police say an argument escalated into gunfire. The victim, who police say knew Garbow, was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. Garbow drove away after the shooting, and police don’t know where he is or what vehicle he may be driving. Anyone who spots him should not approach and should call 9-1-1.

(Wells, MN) — A southern Minnesota man is dead, and two young boys are seriously injured after a tractor rollover near Wells. The Faribault County Sheriff’s Office says 48-year-old Timothy Steinborn of Walters was driving an Oliver tractor Tuesday with two boys, ages eight and ten, when it entered a steep roadside ditch at an angle and overturned. All three were trapped beneath the tractor. Steinborn died at the scene. Emergency crews freed the boys, and both were airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

(Undated) — Minnesota county jails have collected more than 21 million dollars from the federal government for housing ICE detainees since early 2025. Federal payments totaled about 21-and-a-half-million dollars from February 2025 through June of this year. Kandiyohi County received the most at roughly eight million dollars. ICE pays participating jails up to 140 dollars per detainee per day and covers transportation costs. But future payments could change once a new 16-hundred-bed federal immigration detention center begins operating in Appleton later this year.

Demuth says cutting regulations would lower construction costs, while expanding support for skilled trades would help build the workforce needed to increase the housing supply. She also says lower taxes would help families save and stay in their homes. Klobuchar is calling for streamlined permitting and building requirements, incentives for new construction, and easier access to down-payment assistance. Her plan calls for putting Minnesota on a path to build at least 100,000 homes. Both candidates say increasing housing supply and reducing construction barriers are key to improving affordability.

Lundeen says technology has transformed the game during his coaching career, but his focus remains on the players. (Chisholm, MN) — Chisholm Public Schools are celebrating the completion of a consolidated campus that brings students from pre-K through 12th grade together in one location. The project includes a new pre-K-through-sixth-grade addition to Chisholm High School, improvements to the existing high school, additional parking, a dedicated bus loop, and new indoor and outdoor activity spaces. Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation supported the project with $8 million in educational facility bonds. The new facilities replace the aging Vaughan (Vawn)-Steffensrud and historic Chisholm elementary school buildings.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minimum-wage workers in St. Paul will get another raise next year. The city has announced inflation-adjusted rates for 2027, with wages continuing to vary based on employer size. Starting January 1st, large businesses will be required to pay at least 17 dollars and 2 cents an hour. Smaller employers will continue their scheduled phase-in, with both large and small businesses reaching 17-oh-2 an hour by July 1st. The city is also highlighting its enforcement efforts, including a recent case that recovered more than 40-thousand dollars in back wages for workers.
