>>Seattle Woman Pleads Guilty to Delivering Bribe Money to Feeding our Future Juror

(Minneapolis, MN) — A woman from Washington is pleading guilty to delivering bribe money to a juror in the Feeding out Future fraud trial.  Federal prosecutors say Abdimajid Nur of Shakopee flew 31-year-old Ladan Ali from Seattle to bring 200 thousand dollars to the juror, but she only put 120 thousand in the bag.  U-S Attorney Andrew Luger said, “Nur’s brother provided the bribe funds and he deleted on his phone, although we recovered it, a video of Ladan Ali delivering the bribe to juror 52’s home.”  Ali told the juror’s relative there would be more money if she voted to acquit the defendants in the Feeding our Future fraud trial.”  Luger said fortunately, juror 52 could not be bought.

 

>>Walz Has Higher Favorability Rating Than Vance in New Poll

(Undated) — A recent national poll conducted by U-S-A Today-Suffolk University gives Minnesota Governor Tim Walz higher approval ratings than Ohio Senator J-D Vance.  The poll of one thousand likely voters found that 48 percent have a favorable opinion of the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, compared to 36 percent who held a favorable opinion of the Republican V-P pick.  The survey also indicated that 54 percent of voters considered Walz to be more qualified to become president, while Vance received support from 42 percent of those polled.

 

>>MnDOT Reminds Campaigns Placing Political Signs Along Highway is Illegal

(St. Paul, MN) — With upcoming November elections, the Minnesota Department of Transportation reminds campaigners that state law prohibits the placement of political or advertising signs on highway right-of-way.  MnDOT spokeswoman Anne Meyer says workers will pick up those signs and save them for a time, allowing the owners of signs to reclaim them.  She also says signs may not be placed on private land without the consent of the landowner.

 

>>Brainerd-Based Minnesota Guard Unit to be Honored at Camp Ripley

(Little Falls, MN) — A central Minnesota National Guard unit is being honored with three prestigious awards tonight (Fri 5pm) at Camp Ripley.  The National Guard’s 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 194th Armor Regiment based in Brainerd will receive the military’s highest unit award, the Presidential Unit Citation, for their efforts in the Kabul evacuation.  The unit deployed in March 2021 and returned in January 2022.  The unit was essential in supporting allies and the citizens of Afghanistan in Kabul.  The Presidential Unit Citation is awarded to units for extraordinary heroism in action against an enemy.  They are also receiving the Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Superior Unit Award.

 

>>Minneapolis Man Charged in Federal Drug Trafficking Case

(Minneapolis, MN) — A four-count federal indictment charges a Minneapolis man with intent to distribute fentanyl and possessing a machine gun as a felon.  The U-S Attorney’s Office says law enforcement got a search warrant in late July for a white Nissan Rogue driven by 28-year-old Tyrone Carter Jr.  Officers attempted to block Carter’s vehicle in a north Minneapolis parking lot and ordered him to get out, but he accelerated past police.  Carter was arrested after a pursuit, PIT maneuver, and brief struggle and authorities found a fully loaded Glock pistol with an “auto sear” and extended magazine.  In the vehicle’s trunk, officers located a purple powder pressed into a brick, hundreds of dime bags, and rubber gloves.  The powder was later deemed fentanyl.

 

>>Pedestrian Seriously Hurt in Iron Range Hit and Run Crash

(Kinney, MN) — Authorities on the Iron Range are investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian near the city of Kinney.  The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says a 26-year-old man was found lying in the ditch on Highway 25 late Thursday afternoon.  The victim was airlifted to a Duluth hospital with serious injuries.  Deputies say the man was hit by a vehicle which had fled the scene.  No further information is being released.

 

>>Tofte Landscape Project to Begin in Superior National Forest

(Tofte, MN) — Superior National Forest officials are moving forward with the Tofte Landscape Project near the North Shore in the Lutsen area.  Gunflint District Ranger Kyle Stover says the second cycle of this project is geared toward vegetation management activities.  He says they include prescribed burns, timber harvest, wildlife habitat improvements with mechanical treatments, tree planting, and it covers most of the Tofte District outside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. One of the goals is to create and maintain moose habitat.  Stover says moose are an important species in Minnesota.

 

>>Willie and Dylan Play Outlaw Music Festival in Somerset, Wisconsin

(Somerset, WI) — Music legends Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan headline the Outlaw Music Festival tonight (Fri 5:15pm) in Somerset, Wisconsin.  Southern Avenue opens the show followed by Nelson’s Farm Aid co-founder John Mellencamp.  The Somerset Amphitheater is about 40 miles east of the Twin Cities along the Apple River.  Willie and Dylan played together at Midway Stadium in St. Paul in 2005.
