(St. Paul, MN) — New digital mapping at public and private schools across Minnesota is aiming to make them safer. Representative Matt Norris of Blaine says the seven-million-dollar state investment will allow authorities to respond to emergencies more quickly. Norris says, “in this day and age, you know our minds immediately jump to an active shooter situation, and this is certainly a tool that would help speed emergency response. But we also know that there’s many far more common emergencies that occur within our schools in Minnesota every single day. ” More than a hundred schools have already been mapped heading into the 2024-25 school year.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota State officials kick off a statewide tour of college and university campuses this week to gather input for the next two-year budget. Chancellor Scott Olson says these listening sessions are an important part of the budgeting process. Olson says the budget request will be package of proposals to serve students, keep tuition affordable, maintain high quality, and serve the Minnesota workforce. The first listening sessions are Tuesday at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall (9am) and Riverland Community College in Austin (2:30pm).
>>Man Killed in West St. Paul Crash While Fleeing Police
(West St. Paul, MN) — Police say a man was killed in a crash in West St. Paul Sunday morning while fleeing authorities. Officers received a call from a woman who reported a 35-year-old man was threatening other residents and damaging property. She added that he used drugs and was drunk. Officers later saw the suspect’s car and tried to pull him over, but he fled and lost control a few blocks later, crashing into a power pole and two empty cars. Investigators say the man was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

(Blaine, MN) — One person is under arrest after a shooting Sunday afternoon in Blaine outside Northtown Mall. Police say shots were fired in the parking lot and an entrance door was damaged. Officers cleared the mall and locked down the building. Investigators say no one was injured and a man was taken into custody pending a firearms charge.

(Winona, MN) – Authorities in southeastern Minnesota say a man from Rochester suspected of killing his sister in Wisconsin last month has died after being stopped by police in Winona. Officers say 59-year-old Scott Jenkins was pulled over on Friday night on Interstate 90 and was instructed to exit his vehicle. When Jenkins didn’t move, officers approached the vehicle and found Jenkins dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Multiple law enforcement agencies had been searching for Jenkins following the shooting death of his sister in Eau Claire on August 29th. The investigation into both cases is ongoing.

(Hudson, WI) — A motorcyclist from Minnesota is dead after a crash Sunday morning near Hudson in northwest, Wisconsin. The State Patrol says a cycle driven by a 19-year-old man from St. Michael collided with a vehicle on eastbound Interstate 94 in St. Croix County. Troopers say the motorcyclist died at the scene. No names have been released.

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — A pedestrian is being treated for life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car Saturday night in Brooklyn Park. Police say it happened at an intersection on Highway 252. The State Patrol reports a vehicle struck a 34-year-old St. Cloud man as he crossed the highway. The victim was brought to North Memorial Hospital. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. It’s unknown who had the right of way.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Police are investigating the stabbings of three people early Saturday in south Minneapolis. Officers say they found two men with stab wounds and one of them had had life-threatening injuries. A third stabbing victim came to Hennepin Healthcare later with non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made. Detectives believe the stabbings happened during an argument involving a large group leaving an event.

(McGregor, MN) — Authorities in Aitkin County are searching for a missing woman in Savanna Portage State Park. The sheriff’s office announced the search for the 23-year-old woman on Friday. She was last seen on a fishing dock in the park, which is in McGregor about 50 miles west of Duluth. She was wearing a rainbow tie-dye shirt, gym shorts, black shoes, and black headphones at the time she disappeared.

(East Rutherford, NJ) — The Minnesota Vikings opened the season with a 28-6 win over the New York Giants at Met Life Stadium. Quarterback Sam Darnold threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns in his Purple debut and new running back Aaron Jones rushed for 94 yards a T-D. All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson finished with 59 yards and a score and linebacker Andrew Van Winkel returned a 10-yard interception for a touchdown. The Vikings defense was able to keep the Giants offense out of the endzone. Minnesota hosts San Francisco in the home opener this Sunday.

(Washington, DC) — The Minnesota Lynx improved to 26-and-9 with a 78-71 win Sunday afternoon at the Washington Mystics. Minnesota trailed by one point going into the fourth quarter and outscored Washington 27-19 in the final frame. Napheesa Collier scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Courtney Williams added 12 points. The Lynx are 2-and-0 on this three-game road trip. They play the Dream Tuesday night in Atlanta.
