Mpls Mayor Frey calls for arrest, charges against officer responsible in George Floyd’s death

May 27, 2020 By Scott Peterson

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey today called on the Hennepin County Attorney to file charges immediately against the officer involved in the killing of George Floyd. Frey said in a news conference that he’s “wrestled with more than anything else over the last 36 hours–one fundamental question, why is the man who killed George Floyd not in jail?” Frey added, “if I had done it or you had done it, we would be behind bars right now.” The Minneapolis police officer seen on a viral video kneeling on the neck of George Floyd before he died has been identified as Derek Chauvin. Police initially said Floyd was resisting arrest. Mayor Frey says he has not seen any evidence of that.
