(Minneapolis, MN) — The woman who’s been described as Jamar Clark’s girlfriend spoke publicly or the first time today about the night he was shot and killed by Minneapolis Police. RayAnn Hayes says what happened leading up to the shooting has been greatly distorted. She says she fell and twisted her own ankle, then called police two hours later and she says she never reported anything about domestic violence or her boyfriend beating her. And she says she and Clark were just friends, not in a relationship. Last week, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said criminal charges were not warranted against Officers Mark Ringgenberg or Dustin Schwarze in Clark’s November shooting. The Minneapolis NAACP’s Nekima Levy Pounds is calling for the investigation in Clark’s death to be reopened and for a special prosecutor to be appointed.
