Nurses from other states could work in Minnesota as long as they meet standards in a national “compact” — that provision stays in the state Senate’s health and human services bill over Democrats’ objections. Rochester Republican Carla Nelson says one group opposes Minnesota joining the multi-state nurse licensing compact is “the Minnesota Nurses Association, which has a very small membership compared to the large number of licensed nurses in our state.” Shoreview Democrat Jason Isaacson responds, “The folks who are the experts at being nurses oppose this, just so we’re clear about that — the folks that actually *are* nurses.”
The measure will likely face stiff opposition in the Democrat-controlled Minnesota House.
