State officials are in Duluth today launching a new psychiatric residential treatment facility for children with complex mental health conditions. Human Services Assistant Commissioner Claire Wilson says the facility, run by Northwood Children’s Services, is more intensive than residential or day treatment, but less intensive than hospitalization. Wilson says it “really is meeting the need in the mental health continuum for youth who need a significant intervention but don’t quite need that hospital level of stay.”
It’s the first of three such facilities planned for Minnesota in next two years. One will be in the metro area and two in Greater Minnesota, totaling about 150 beds.
