No need to worry anymore about getting lost in the woods — at least if you’re in a state park, or on a state water trail or off-highway vehicle trail. The D-N-R’S Amy Barrett says “geo-spatial PDF maps” can now be accessed right on your smartphone. She says, “You will see a blue dot showing exactly where you’re standing on a trail, and it moves with you, so you never have to guess anymore how much further it is to the end of the trail or to the next turnoff, to get back to the car.” Barrett says as long as you download the app and the map while you still have Internet access, you don’t need cell phone or Internet access when you’re on the trail. It works off the G-P-S in your phone or other mobile device.
Barrett calls it a new tool “that will give people an added comfort level when they’re out exploring the outdoors.” For complete instructions, visit the D-N-R’s website. State trail and snowmobile trail maps will be available in about a month.
