The driver of a holiday wagon that crashed near Willmar has died. 80-year-old Fred Zwart of rural New London passed away Thursday at a Twin Cities hospital. Zwart suffered a heart attack Saturday night when the team of horses he was operating went out of control and pulled a wagon full of people on a wild ride at the Celebrate the Light of the World Christmas light display. Riders on the wagon say Zwart heroically kept the wagon from rolling during the incident, but he suffered injuries when the wagon hit a free-standing basketball pole and backboard. Zwart had given thousands of people rides in his wagon over the years without any problems. At this point it is unknown what caused the horses to get spooked.
