For those in southwest Minnesota dealing with flood-related damage, Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Joe Kelly has this advice: “Next step is for people, whether they’re homeowners or business owners, is to call the county emergency management director and get on their list of places to be [damage] assessed.”
Governor Mark Dayton declared a state of emergency in 36 Minnesota counties plus the Red Lake Nation, and it’s expected the state will ask for a federal disaster declaration. Dayton said Friday in Slayton that he estimates about 27 counties could qualify for federal assistance and the state also has resources for such situations.
