Next Friday through Sunday (June 7,8,9) is “Take a Kid Fishing” Weekend and Minnesota residents can fish without a license if they take someone 15 or younger out angling. The D-N-R’s Jeff Ledermann says he started his kids fishing when they were two. “My younger one is now 22 and I’m going out with her on Friday,” he says. “So you build that interest at a young age and you’ll have a partner to go fishing with for life.”
Ledermann says it’s also a chance for adults to wet a line for the first time — no license required as long as they take someone age 15 or younger with them to fish. “If you’re an adult (and) you’ve never tried it, we really encourage you to get out there and see if you enjoy it and give that a shot also,” Lederman says. Adults who want to learn how to fish can visit mndnr.gov/GoFishing. You can also borrow fishing gear at Minnesota state parks.
