State lawmakers continue trying to agree on a bill to extend unemployment benefits for out-of-work miners on the Iron Range. The sticking point is business tax cuts: Republicans want them included in the legislation while Democrats say they should be passed separately. Governor Mark Dayton said Tuesday he wants Iron Range unemployment benefits extended, but beyond that he’ll “swallow what else they agree to and sign the bill.” But Dayton stressed the unemployment benefits must be for 26 weeks and apply retroactively. House Speaker, Republican Kurt Daudt says he thinks they’re “getting close” to an agreement with Democrats in the Senate. Daudt said Tuesday afternoon, “I believe that we will have a bill on the governor’s desk this week to extend unemployment benefits, but I don’t have all the details worked out with the Senate yet.”
