Officer Jeronimo Yanez is on the stand at his manslaughter trial in Saint Paul. Yanez said in court that Philando Castile told him he had a firearm, began reaching down, and Yanez says he told him not to reach for it. Yanez testified that he reached in the car and saw that Castile’s hand was in a “P” shape and Castile continued to pull forward out of his pocket to the point where Yanez said he could see a gun. He says that’s when he shot Castile. Yanez testified that Castile had total disregard for his commands. Yanez said he was scared to death and thought he was going to die. He said he thought about his family and “I had no other choice.” Yanez then began to break down on the stand, saying he did not want to shoot Mr. Castile at all and those were not his intentions.
