Dayton, Legislative Leaders meet but no deal on transportation funding or other budget items
Governor Mark Dayton and legislative leaders met into the evening Tuesday but have no deal yet on transportation funding, bonding and other budget items with five days until the legislature must adjourn. Dayton says Republicans’ latest offer falls $200 million short of the $600 million needed annually for transportation.
Dayton says the goal is to “maintain our roads and highways and bridges in their existing condition, and then to make the improvements in these projects that people all over the state are waiting for and wanting.”
House Speaker, Republican Kurt Daudt responds, “It’s six billion dollars of real money that will get spent on roads and bridges over the next ten years. We think that’s the goal, we think that’s always been the goal, and our plan accomplishes that.”
