Thanks to quick work from several volunteers, a young female moose was rescued from the cold waters of Hungry Jack Lake after breaking through thin ice on Monday. Rescuers were able to use canoes and a tow strap to help bring the moose to more stable ice. It’s believed the moose may have been chased out on the lake by a local wolf pack when she broke through the ice. Hungry Jack Lake is about midway up the Gunflint Trail, about twenty minutes from Grand Marais.
