A grain elevator at Northrop caught fire again early this morning after exploding around noon Thursday, and crews are back at the scene. Martin County Sheriff Jeff Markquart says no injuries have been reported, but the area was evacuated to keep people out of harm’s way. The fire is still burning and both cold weather and access to adequate water are hampering the effort to put it out.
Northrop, Truman, and Fairmont firefighters were initially called to the scene, but Markquart says they have been joined by crews from 22 other area departments, as well as ambulance and police agencies from throughout the region.
