House Republicans are beginning their review of Governor Mark Dayton’s state budget proposal. A gas tax increase is not included, but Dayton intends to propose it again. Management and Budget Commissioner Myron Frans told a committee this morning that the governor’s plan will be “virtually the same” as last session.” Frans says, “He believes that we need to have a dedicated stream of money, dedicated specifically for roads and bridges and also transit going forward.” Republicans in the House and Senate strongly oppose a gas tax increase, warning it would hit middle-income Minnesotans hard.
