President Obama told Native American leaders at the White House Tribal Nations Conference in Washington D-C this afternoon (Thurs) that the budget he sent Congress would have increased investments in Indian Country one-and-a-half billion dollars. The audience broke into applause when Obama added “we need Congress to show that same support for Indian Country.” The conference comes the day after Obama appointed Minnesotan Karen Diver, chairwoman of the Fond du Lac Band, as his special assistant for Native American affairs.
