(Washington, DC) — President Obama addresses tribal leaders and has a conversation with Native American youth this afternoon (Thurs 315pm CT) as he hosts the 2015 White House Tribal Nations Conference in Washington D-C. It comes the day after the president appointed Minnesotan Karen Diver, chairman of the Fond du Lac Band, as his special assistant for Native American affairs. Diver says she’ll resign as Fond du Lac chair by mid-month as she assumes her White House duties. Diver adds she’ll only serve during the president’s last 14 months in office. She says Obama has shown “unprecedented support for Indian Country” and she’s not interested in serving under a new president from either party.
