The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after an officer shot a suspect following a road chase early Tuesday morning on the Iron Range. Authorities say they tried to pull over the male motorist on a warrant for a felon in possession of a firearm, he fled and led officers on a 17-minute chase from Virginia through Eveleth. The suspect drove off the road, left the vehicle and fled into the woods. A St. Louis County sheriff’s deputy shot the suspect, who walked out of the woods and surrendered. He was taken to a Duluth hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
