Hit with a flood of unemployment insurance claims, state officials are asking Minnesotans to follow a schedule when applying for jobless benefits. Employment and Economic Development Commissioner Steve Grove says, “If the last digit of your Social Security number is zero, one or two, we ask that you apply on Monday. If the last digit of your Social Security number is three, four or five, you should apply on Tuesday. And if the last digit of your Social Security number is six, seven, eight or nine, you should apply on Wednesday.” Grove says they’re leaving Thursday and Friday open for anyone who missed their assigned day.
Grove is urging people to apply on-line at UIMN-dot-org, because phone lines are very busy. The state has received 239-thousand claims for unemployment insurance since March 16th, more than during all of 2019.
