State and federal officials have launched a new one-on-one assistance program for homeless and at-risk veterans who may qualify for Social Security Disability benefits or Supplemental Security Income. Andy Garvais with the state Veterans Affairs Department says it’s the first time the program is being targeted specifically to veterans. He says veterans with mental health or chemical dependency barriers can get help with completing applications to ensure quick processing.
