Officials urge caution, roads flooded in southern MN

September 22, 2016 By Bill Werner

A number of highways in southern Minnesota are closed due to heavy rains: Highway 58 north of Zumbrota, Highway 14 eastbound and westbound at Waseca and Janesville, Highway 60 west of Kenyon, Highway 65 (Main Street) in Albert Lea, Highway 13 at New Richland and south of Waseca, Highway 30 east of Mapleton, and Highway 83 at St. Clair and from Waldorf to Pemberton. For the latest info, visit 511mn.org.

MN-DOT’s Mike Dougherty advises motorists if there are barricades on a flooded road, stay well away.  He adds, “If there’s no one there and there’s water across the roadway, don’t take the chance. You don’t really know what’s underneath that water, if there’s still a road there or if it’s been washed out. It’s better to be safe and turn around.”  Dougherty asks motorists to notify law enforcement if they encounter water across the road that’s not marked with barricades.
