Officials are warning Minnesotans to be on the lookout at the gas pump for credit card skimmers — small electronic devices that can be attached to credit card readers or hidden inside gas pumps, which transmit customers’ card data to criminals. State Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman encourages people using credit cards at the pump to watch for signs that the reader has been tampered with and report any concerns to law enforcement and the state Commerce Department. If you use a debit card, never enter your PIN at the pump. Rothman says his department’s field workers will be inspecting gas pumps for skimmer devices.
