There might be one bright spot, even though Minnesota has its highest unemployment numbers since at least the Great Recession. Oriane Casale with the Department of Employment and Economic Development says Minnesota’s job losses are concentrated in the leisure/hospitality and personal services industries — so perhaps COVID-19’s impact on Minnesota’s *overall* economy is not as great as in some other states. Casale says, “I think the hope there is that it’ll be a little bit easier for us to bounce back, once people are able to start opening their businesses again and going back to business as usual.”
Despite that, the leisure and hospitality industry has been hit with the lion’s share of job losses in Minnesota.
