Officials have extended the open enrollment deadline through February 8th for people to purchase health insurance through MNsure. It’s because just last week the legislature approved a 25 percent discount for 2017, for those not receiving federal tax credits. If you’re eligible for federal tax credits, the only way to get them is to buy health insurance through MNsure. Those who get insurance through their employer are not eligible for the discount.
O’Toole says, “To get the automatic discount, you don’t need to do anything. You don’t need to contact anyone. This will be automatic and directly from the insurer.” She urges Minnesotans to buy their health insurance now and avoid a last-minute crunch.
