Law enforcement and public safety officials are stepping up patrols for drunken boaters this weekend.
The goal of “Operation Dry Water” is to cut down on the number of boating accidents and fatalities on state waterways. DNR Lt. Adam Block says the legal limit for driving a boat is .08–the same as driving a car. In 2015, alcohol was a factor in seven of 16 deadly boating accidents in Minnesota.
On average, more than a third of boating deaths involve alcohol.
