Security officers escorted protesters out of a State Capitol hearing room after they interrupted the proceedings
Chanting demonstrators interrupted a hearing at the State Capitol last night, demanding that Governor Mark Dayton veto a bill that would prohibit the state from issuing drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. Referring to John F. Kennedy, one of Dayton’s heroes, one protester said “the governor has a chance to be a Profile in Courage by vetoing that bill.” Dayton says he strongly disagrees with the ban on drivers licenses for undocumented immigrants, but contends it was necessary to go along with Republicans’ demands to get agreement on a public safety budget bill.
