Opponents of PolyMet’s proposed copper-nickel mine in Hoyt Lakes are gearing up their campaign after the D-N-R today (Fri) released a draft permit for the project. Aaron Klemz with Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy says a mid-December poll finds more oppose the project (44 percent) than support it (40 percent). He says, “It’s pretty clear that Minnesotans are already skeptical, and we think that once they learn whether PolyMet’s lived up to their promises, they’ll continue to further oppose the project.”
Supporters of the project call PolyMet the catalyst for a new era of responsible mining, pointing to what they call rigorous environmental review. Opponents are not convinced.
