The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher David Festa from Triple-A St. Paul.

Festa, who was recently named Twins minor league Pitcher of the Month for May, has gone 2-1 with a 2.83 ERA (28.2 IP, 9 ER), four walks, 34 strikeouts and a 0.98 WHIP in six starts for the Saints this season. That includes posting a 1.26 ERA (14.1 IP, 2 ER) and walking two batters while striking out 19 and holding opponents to a .160 (8-for-50) batting average in three May starts. Festa also made three starts for the Twins from April 11-24 (during Pablo López’s IL stint), posting a 1.38 ERA (13.0 IP, 2 ER), with five walks and 15 strikeouts.

To make room for Festa on the 26-man roster, the Twins have placed right-handed pitcher Pablo López on the 15-day Injured List (retroactive to June 4) with a grade 2 strain of the teres major muscle in his right shoulder. López, who was removed from his start on Tuesday in Sacramento prior to the start of the sixth inning with the injury, has gone 5-3 with a 2.82 ERA (60.2 IP, 19 ER), 14 walks, 61 strikeouts and a .225 (51-for-227) opponent batting average in 11 starts for the Twins this season. This marks his second stint on the IL this year, after missing 14 games from April 9-25 with a right hamstring strain.

Festa is scheduled to start this afternoon’s series finale against the Athletics in Sacramento.
