Part of a major street (Tower Avenue/Wisconsin Highway 35) is closed in Superior, Wisconsin after a passerby reported what appeared to be a pipe bomb outside the city’s new fire hall. That building and a dentist office next door have been evacuated, and Police Chief Nick Alexander says a bomb squad is en-route from Marathon County in central Wisconsin. “They have the equipment and the expertise to be able to deal with it, identify it and to disable it, if it is some sort of explosive device,” he says. “In the meantime, we’ve used some of our heavy armor to kind of shield it, in case something were to happen.”
Chief Alexander indicates they’ve evacuated an appropriate area based on the size of the potential explosive and says no one is at risk.
