It could be weeks at the soonest before the legislature passes a bill to make the state comply with federal REAL ID, which would ensure Minnesotans can use their drivers license to board flights when the requirements take effect next year. House Speaker Kurt Daudt originally talked about getting a REAL ID bill passed early in the session, but it didn’t happen. Daudt says, “I also wanted to do the health care relief stuff on the first day of session, and that got pushed out to the third week in January — so that pushed everything back, frankly.” On Tuesday, Senate lawmakers removed a controversial provision from the bill related to undocumented immigrants, but that measure is still in the House version.
