Education, drug rehab, restrictions on prescribing, and prescription drug takeback are the focus of a bill to combat the opioid crisis that’s up for a vote in the Minnesota House today (Tues). Not included: a penny-a-pill tax on drug manufacturers and distributors. Dellwood Republican Matt Dean says,”We’re not specifically looking at where that revenue comes from. We’re looking at trying to solve a problem and trying to help people in Minnesota by trying to prevent them from becoming addicted in the first place.” Governor Mark Dayton and others argue the pharmaceutical industry should pay to solve a problem they helped create.
