People on both sides of the issue in Minnesota don’t put much stock in President Trump’s statement that he supports background checks on guns. Professor Joseph Olson with the Gun Owners Civil Rights Alliance opposes background checks but says about the president’s stance, “I don’t think President Trump reads bills. I think he just pulls ideas out of thin air. I suspect the White House will be walking back from that in the next rest of the week.”
Maria Huntley from Saint Paul favors background checks but says about Trump’s position, “His support… [has] historically been inconsistent, so it’s hard to know day by day what his role will be in this.”
The President tweeted Thursday “Background Checks a big part of conversation…. After many years, a Bill should emerge. Respect 2nd Amendment!”
