Police practices expert Jeff Noble, a witness for the prosecution, testified in court today that in his opinion, Officer Jeronimo Yanez’s use of deadly force against Philando Castile was unreasonable, excessive and inappropriate. Noble said it appeared Philando Castile did not pose an immediate threat to Yanez. After the shooting, on video Yanez told a supervisor he had been nervous. When asked whether the use of deadly force is appropriate because an officer is nervous, Noble replied, “no.” The big question that still remains unanswered: Did Yanez see Castile’s gun before he shot and killed him? That’s something both sides are trying to solidify today in the minds of jurors.
