Applause and smiles on the Minnesota Senate floor today as lawmakers recognized the gold-medal-winning U-S Olympic curling team. Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says colleague Michelle Benson from Ham Lake suggested an event at the Capitol to honor the many Minnesotans who have won gold medals, “So I sent out a text to the governor and he’s gonna try to work on something for the House, Senate and governor to do something. So stay tuned, but I think that would be further recognition for all the many Minnesotans.”
Among Minnesotans contributing to the U-S standings in the 2018 Olympics: Unprecedented U-S gold medals from cross-country skier Jessie Diggins of Afton and curling team captain John Shuster from Chisholm. The women’s hockey team, with seven Minnesota natives, won its first gold medal in 20 years and alpine skier Lindsey Vonn brings home a bronze.
